Watson Lake may be polluted with mercury and not s Watson Lake may be polluted with mercury and not swimmable, but it sure does look cool. You could put a kayak, canoe, or paddle board in though! Definitely worth stopping for sunset photos if you’re near Prescott, and no hike required. The last photo I took when a rainbow popped out through the clouds and made for such a neat mood.
I grew up an only child until I was about 13 and w I grew up an only child until I was about 13 and we adopted my little brother. I think because of this, I learned to become incredibly self reliant. Not in the sense that I made my own meals and changed the oil in my moped. But I relied on no one for entertainment or company. I felt completely content spending my entire days alone, reading, writing, trying to master pointless skills like hacky sack, or exploring our 120 acres with my dogs pretending I was a National Geographic photographer or Indiana Jones. Hanging out with friends was always more fun, but to this day I prefer my own company and solitude. I learned as I got older that sometimes I was perceived as standoffish or stuck up. This was shocking to me, because if they only knew how awkward or uncomfortable I felt, they’d understand why I didn’t go out of my way to make conversation. I try to be more self aware now and push myself when the situation calls for it, but simultaneously I embrace the introvert inside and allow myself to relish my solitude as much as possible. The older I get, the more I realize I’m not alone in this self-perceived awkwardness and am comforted that we are all similar in so many ways. Wishing you to feel good about who you are at your core this Monday. 💙
Remember the town of Bisbee in Southern Arizona I Remember the town of Bisbee in Southern Arizona I posted about? Just a few minutes away is the incorporated area of Lowell. There is a street called Erie Street that is the only part of the downtown area of Lowell that survived after expanding the open pit mine in the 1950’s. I adore places that are like a time capsule SO much. Volunteers maintain the street to be something of a 1950’s museum. It’s incredible! It’s also one of the most photographed places in the west. Who knew?!
We’ve officially been #vanlifers for a month! I We’ve officially been #vanlifers for a month! I honestly knew I’d fall in love with this lifestyle and despite hearing the advice that you should rent a van to try it and make sure you like it first, I didn’t need to. I knew. Just like I know I don’t like oysters by looking at them. Some things you don’t need to taste to know whether or not you’ll like them because you know yourself. Anyways, I feel like I need a cactus tattoo now after how much I’ve fallen in love with Arizona. Although I also feel like the desert is a series of boobie traps designed to kill us. Thanks for following along! You guys are the best!
Who’s been to Bisbee, Arizona? There are particu Who’s been to Bisbee, Arizona? There are particular towns with a certain vibe and history that I just fall head over heels for. Bisbee is one of them. Founded in 1880, Bisbee was once a rough booming mine town, one of the biggest producers of copper in the world, the largest city from St. Louis to San Fran, until the mines shut and everyone left. You can guess what happened next…like all great cultured towns today, the creative hippies moved in 🤣 Kidding, but not really. It’s a funky, quirky place. We had planned to only stay for the afternoon, but I couldn’t get enough and stayed a couple more days to take a nighttime ghost tour and a mine tour. Bisbee is only 11 miles from the Mexican border and 90 miles southeast of Tucson. Plus, it’s at an elevation of 5,500 feet so it remains cooler.
I have waited 17 years to have this kind of freedo I have waited 17 years to have this kind of freedom, adventure, and time with Griffey. I’ve felt guilty working or leaving him home when I travel for so long. Finally I’m experiencing my dream of freedom and adventure with him and I don’t think he can even see well enough to know what’s going on. He hasn’t been the same dog for a couple of years now. He had a seizure for the first time a couple mornings ago and it just about broke my heart. Don’t be like me. Don’t put your dreams off until someday. That someday may be too late.

P.S. This spot is in the Valley of Fire on the White Domes trail.

This van life thing is really working for me. The This van life thing is really working for me. The diesel prices not so much, but I can hardly complain about something like that when there is so much worse going on in the world right now. Higher gas prices mean we travel at a slower pace. Some of my favorite moments are when we take the time to just enjoy our little home in a scenic location long enough to make coffee, lunch, let Griffey nap…or maybe we nap. No pressure, no rush, no end destination. I’ve never experienced this before. It’s what I’ve always wanted. I cried this morning drinking my coffee watching the golden sunrise across the desert thinking about how I’ve achieved this particular goal of mine.

I feel like this photo is the perfect metaphor to I feel like this photo is the perfect metaphor to start the new year…the rainbow after the storm. Last year was a hard one but it brought about some beautiful opportunities, big decisions, and a lot of changes. I’m here for it.

We are currently road tripping through California We are currently road tripping through California trying to get warm. We've been to the beach and the desert and back to the beach again. I'm stoked to partner with @POETbiofuels to promote the idea to Gift in Green this holiday season. When you choose more sustainable options, like biofuels, you're giving back to the planet. Biofuels already make up 10% of standard fuel in the US, however in select locations you can get higher biofuel blends which are the better option for reducing carbon emissions and they are produced here in America. Not only that, but they burn cleaner and more efficient so it's better for your vehicle's performance. Let's make the holidays about going green instead of spending our green. #ad #giftingreen #giftthatkeepsongiving #GetBiofuel
